Hospital Lifts

hospital lifts

It is certainly sad to be in the cabin of a disconnected elevator, but the malfunction of a hospital elevator is much worse, when the patient’s life may depend on it. Supervision of elevators in hospitals is even more stringent, and the requirements for them and their equipment are different from conventional lifts.

The specifics of hospital elevators

Special requirements for hospital elevators are formulated in GOST 22011-95. One of the main conditions that determine the safety of such lifts is that the cabin must reach the nearest floor and the doors will open open even when the power supply is cut off. This should be achieved either by redundant power supply, or mechanically, but necessary.

Other distinctive features of such elevators are the following:

  • When people are in the booth, other calls are ignored.
  • The complexity of modern equipment to accompany the patient requires the installation of outlets for uninterrupted power in the cabin and adjustable lighting.
  • The speed of the cab is not more than 1.6 m / s, and the noise should not exceed 60 dB, which requires a drive without a noisy gearbox.
  • The deviation of the stop of the cab floor from the platform on the floor must not exceed 15 mm.

There are a number of requirements for the hospital elevator car itself:

  • Walls must be stainless steel for easy sanitation.
  • The flooring must not slip.
  • Its overall dimensions and carrying capacity make it possible to transport any options for wheelchairs or beds of a particular hospital and accompanying medical staff.
  • The dimensions and design of the doors are defined by the standard, but in the case of individual projects, opening on two or even three sides may be provided.
  • The temperature in the cabin cannot be more than +55 degrees, and the humidity should be less than 98%, which often requires forced ventilation.

In addition to various design features, the medical staff responsible for transporting patients is trained in the use of the elevator, and sometimes it is provided for in the staff of the elevator who is responsible for this. The lifter must prevent the elevator from stopping and call the electrician responsible for the equipment as quickly as possible. The condition of the elevator mechanisms is regularly monitored to prevent emergency situations.

Elevator manufacturers, both domestic and foreign, have in their nomenclature an extensive list of models of elevators for hospitals. High reliability, safety and various equipment make it possible to equip them not only with hospitals, but also with children's health facilities, homes for the disabled and the elderly.
